I went to repair this PC but the customer decided to plug back in an older system instead of putting money into this one. It's has Windows 2000 Professional on it. It comes up with "Disk Read Error" everytime and the only thing you can do is Hit Ctrl+Alt+Del, which just takes you right back to the same thing.

I don't have a disk for it. Can I get one somewhere? Or can I fix this without a disk possibly?

A GX240 is at least 8 years old. You could put a cheap IDE disk in it and reinstall Windows but then what are you going to do with it?

Yeah. I'm in a very rural area here. People keep their PC's forever. I could probably sell this if I get it running.

Yeah, the hard drive is almost certainly dead.

You could always put in a $50 500 GB hard drive, 512 MB of memory, and install ($100) Windows Home Server on it. But that'll only back up XP and Vista clients.

You'll need a new disk to do that. The 250GB Seagate for $49.99 with free shipping is about the best you are going to do. You'll also need the original Windows 2000 Disk...or another licensed copy of an OS.

And how much do you think that would get you? Unless you have a disk of your own that you want to exchange for a bigger one, it might not be worth the effort.
