Dell OEM Windows XP CD

I plan to remove Windows XP form my Dell Inspiron 8100 and replace it with Linux. I want to know if the Dell OEM CD will work on my new computer. I tried it on an older computer, but it asks to activate within 30 days. I never had to activate on my Dell laptop, probably for the fact that it was a Dell. Will I be able to activate it on my new custom computer via the internet with the CD key on the sticker underneath my laptop? Do i have to change the setupp.ini on the CD? Someone help me please.

From what I know, you can only have XP installed on one machine, and your case it should work. I installed linux on my 8100, and took my OEM XP and installed on my desktop. It asked me for activation which i did without no hassle. You can also call Microsoft and activate it with them. Either way as long as it is on only on 1 system it will work.
