Dell motherboard ATX?

I've heard that Dell motherboards require an adapter cable to use a standard ATX power supply. But with this cable can a Dell MB be put into a standard ATX case?

i have heard that too, but i have used numerous dell systems with non dell powersupplies and never had trouble.

I am using a non dell 400 watt PSU in my Dell 4550 . i had to make some case modifications though. you might have to cut the metal screen on the back of your case to get it to fit.

I would like to point out that you SHOULD NOT put a non dell PS in MANY MANY MANY dell systems out there. Be sure to check with dell to see if the power supplied via the 24 pin molex is correct. There are several of the dimension models that a standard plug will fit into but it is not configured the same way.

The '400sc faq' what somewhat helpful. I found the ATX PS wiring specification but the Dell website doesn't have any useful information on the power supply for my Precision 360.

I found this out the hard way... I swapped an old dell PSU for a standard ATX, and was puzzled when it didn't start. I checked online and found that I had just ruined the motherboard because the pinouts were different...

Suggestion: anyone wondering whether a particular model of Dell uses standard or non-standard power supplies, look it up at PC Power & Cooling's PSU configurator and see if it comes up with a Dell-specific PSU or a normal ATX PSU.
