Dell mobo with non-dell power supply?

Hork

My brother brought me his computer and he thought his hard drive was going out. Turned out to be the power supply fan making all the noise.

I'm replacing the power supply with one of my own, but then I realized this is a Dell, although one that is only about a year old.

In the back of my mind I remember tales about Dell switching the polarity of their power supply/connection to the motherboard so you could only use a dell power supply with that computer.

Is that something I still need to worry about?

The computer is a Dimension 4700.

Awesome! Thanks!

I've replaced the power supply and it is humming along nicely now.

Of course, it is never easy... the power supply I put in was a Rosewill RV300 that has an extra fan on it, and I had to take off the front of the computer and slide the CD drive forward to be able to slip the PSU into place. It's always somethin'!

At least I wasn't imagining the whole Dell uses different power supply connections thingy!

Thanks again!
