Dell machine goes dead after several hours

A new dell machine that after being left on for several hours, the monitor goes in to power save and it can't be woken up. Hibernation is off and standby has been turned off but the machine still goes into a state where it can't be woken up.

Any ideas?

It isn't in an enclosed space such as a computer-hutch cupboard, and thus overheating, is it?

Are you running a third-party screensaver?

Any USB devices connected?

Does the computer remain turned on, or is it just the monitor that won't display after being woken up?

check bios to make sure power saving features are turned off
