dell... looking to buy 600m or 700m

Just look at the specs. The 600M is 2" bigger, 1 lb. heavier, has serial/parallel ports, isn't widescreen, has slightly lower resolution, and costs $100 less.

I'd go with the 700M if you want something tiny ... and if you want something with a decent sized screen or want to play games, I'd be looking at the 6000 with dedicated graphics. The 600M is sort of a half-assed middle-ground system.

i have and have bought ~ 35 600m's; it is the best Dell branded product i've ever been forced to buy...

I agree with Tostitos. Either 700m for portability or 6000 for more functionality.

It's a good time to buy Dell laptops on FS/FT and eBay--All those Dell coupons have really devalued the resale units. Go make a seller in FS/FT happy 🙂

That's an interesting statement.

Statistics for Engineers 5 is the best Duxbury Publishing branded product I've ever been forced to buy. It's a rather poor presentation of the material, but given that we're talking about involuntary purchases from a specific company, competition for the "best" designation is scarce.

Care to share some real reasons you like the 600M? Have you used a 700M to be able to compare the it to?

I've setup some 600m's at work and I'm not highly impressed. The build quality, keyboard quality, and overall experience is meh. Not bad, but not impressive. The latitude D610 was much better than the 600m's. Unfortunately I"ve never used a 700m, but I hear they feel cheap and the keyboard is crap.

I have worked with IBMs (600, T21, T23,T41, R40, R51), Toshiba (Portege 7220, Tecra 8200, S2, Satellite M35), Dell (L400, Insp 5000, 7500), and an Asus M3N, and I have to say that the 700m build quality is very good - don't know where they get the 'cheap' rap other than they don't cost much. the 12.1" WS paired with 1280x res = very small text, etc. also the 4 cell battery doesn't give much run-time. Otherwise these are very nice little machines. I have handled seen 600ms and they are uninspired, average enginnered machines. Comparing them to a 700m is an apples to oranges deal though - not the same market segment.
