dell latitude randomly powers off HELP

OK, so i have a dell latitude laptop, and when i go to put windows on it... xp, 98 or 2000, it randomly powers off when its copying files to the hard drive. i repaced the hard drive, but it still does it. Anyone have this problem before??

you running from battery or ac adapter?

ac adapter... battery, both do it.
