well the hp has twice as much ram
then again it comes with 32bit os.. but i think it can only use 3gb of that.

Dell Latitude by far. But then again you're comparing apples to oranges. The HP DV4 competes with the Dell Inspiron 1420 while the Latitude E6400 competes with HP's Elitebook 6930P.

The Latitude is a business laptop, very well built, with a better graphics card than the hp. Get the Dell.

Edit: Yea, some more RAM would be good.

Well depends on what he is doing, I guess. I noticed a difference going from 2 to 4GB, but 2GB was definitely fine.

Latitude. HP Pavilion sucks. This is coming from an owner of an HP dv2000. I want to break the damn laptop but I don't have money for a new one.

My roommate from 2 years ago had a Latitude D620. Great laptop but the battery wears out real quickly.

I have an HP that has been absolute champ for four years. Built much sturdier IMO then Dell's although Dell's aren't total crap.
