Dell Latitude D420 or Dell Latitude X1?

I think the 4x0 is a better deal. The X1 is nice, but it has a really poor battery life, and limited power.

BTW, the D420 does not have built in optical, it's a D-bay, just like the D410 and X1.

The X1 sucks! I actually liked the previous Dell model (X300) more than the X1. The D420 is the way to go, no questions about it. It's just a better all around laptop.

I've got 6 D620s coming in today. This is my first experience with the new model, hopefully it will be as durable as the D600/610.

I have the x1, while its nice since its super light, its SLOW, and battery life isn't all that great, even with the extended battery. i haven't used the d420, but i do love my d820. the dx20 machines look great and work great. decently fast and great batterylife.

I have a X300 (for sale in the FS/FT forum if you're interested) and it's a nice computer for the ultra-portable market. Obviously, you're making a trade off between portability and power, and for everyday use this thing is great, especially when lugging it around the country/world. If you're looking to do video editing or Photoshoping, this isn't gonna be the computer for you. Battery life with the standard isn't great (about 2 hours), but with the extended the laptop actually becomes pretty useful.

The D620's are quite nice. Beware the extended battery sticks out in front of the laptop.

Good thing I was a cheap ass when I ordered them and only got the standard 56Wh batteries :p Even these are nice, though. Just a hair under 4 hours of battery life at full performance.

i use a 610 (precision m20) myself, been wanting to go dual core lat-d620 or prec-m65 for vmware workstation but may hold out till core2duo, or as we intelligent people would rather call it, conroe, comes out
