Dell latitude 840c speakers not working.

Ok, so I reinstalled windows, reinstalled the sound driver. The speakers do not work at all, but if I plug in headphones the headphones work. Has anyone ever heard of any software that might need to be installed for the external speakers to work? I would think that if the headphones work then the speakers should but they aren't working anymore.

Did you install Vista or XP.. or?

Either way, make sure you have the latest drivers for your card from http://support.dell.com/support/downloads

There's something about the driver that detects if headphones are plugged in, and if they are uses those, if not goes to the speakers. Without proper drivers it wont work correctly. This happened on a handful of laptops I worked on after upgrading them to vista.
