Dell Latitude 4300 - overheat issues

Anyone have one of these ? The system got so hot that the keyboard was registering 114.3F on my temperature probe. Vents are clear, maybe the heatsink just needs to be replaced, vents were registering 123F

Just curious if anyone else's dell latitude e4xxx series runs hot

Most laptops run hot at full tilt. Is there a CPU process running or anything else that indicates that the CPU is not being allowed to idle? Gaming will typically warm them up quite a bit.

My 4310 with an i5-580m runs quite hot, but I've never actually looked at the temps. Sorry I know this isn't much help, I don't have it with me today.

it was 114 on the surface of the keyboard, not at the cpu, meaning the cpu must be hotter. It was booted into the bios, not even in windows

If you haven't already, it might be a good time to clean out the fans. This particular generation of laptops seem to run fairly hot. My E6400 can can really toasty at times as well. Also, you could try replacing the existing thermal compound with something better. Subjectively, it seems to have helped 😛

Yep. Open it up and clean the dust out of the heatsink. Chances are the thermal paste is pretty hardened by now, so clean up with some isopropyl and reapply.

The laptop is not very old. I actually have a fleet of this, so I checked one of the other laptop that isn't over heating, its on BIOS A21, the overheated one is A23, I couldnt find any notes on it, I downgrade the BIOS to A21, and temp is back to normal.

I flash another system that had A16 to A23, and it instantly over heats. I also downgrade that back to A21. I guess something in the bios is causing it to heat up or not turn the fan as much.

I see. I wish my E6400 would use its fan less... I was bored one day and disconnected the fan, but it got quite hot after a while =[

I think for my next laptop I'm going to attempt to find the quietest laptop available >__>
