Info Dell laser C1760cnw printer: A variation on curiously-composed medieval art, "you've seen a cat before, right?"

An example of that meme:

On a similar note, I personally think that someone who is given the job of designing a laser printer should have had to fix a paper jam in one before, change a toner cartridge, maybe even a drum too, which are normally very simple tasks.

The makers of this monstrosity and all its siblings likely had not.

To fetch a torn piece of paper I eventually found sticking out of the fuser unit, I had to remove the front, back, left and right side panels (most of which did not come off without significant prying, the kind that would break a laptop's chassis into pieces), disconnect circuitry and un-channel wiring, and navigate several standardised screws until finding ones with two different threads plus one with a star-shaped head, because you know, where would the fun be in life if you couldn't 80% dismantle a piece of kit to find that you don't have the right screwdriver for the rest of the job (I did, thankfully).

I followed this guide until this printer diverged from that printer's design and winged it the rest of the way:

Hopefully Dell doesn't make printers any more. If they do, beware.

I don't mean to diminish the struggle which is Real, but what did you expect when they cram all that, including 4 carts, into something that small?

Get the largest laser printer that the budget allows... among other considerations of course. Whatever it is, don't get a lexmark (reasons!) and if forced to pick, it would be a Brother.

I didn't buy the printer, I was just hired to fix the paper jam! Especially seeing where the cartridges go in would have got my spider-sense tingling.

At one time, Lexmark and Samsung were the OEMs making printers for Dell. The Lexmark-manufacturered ones were most especially horrible -- they tended to suffer frequent imaginary paper james that even the Dell techs couldn't fix after tearing them completely down, cleaning them out, and even replacing all the sensors.

From my experience, a Dell-branded printer is what you gift to the person you despise the most in the world.

In the US, Dell doesn't even sell Dell-branded printers any more and instead sells Canon, Xerox, and Epson brand printers.
