Dell laptop question

Gibson486

Lifer
Well, now that they phased out the 2650 series (the 5100 and 1100 are so ugly, it looks like an HP reject) will Dell still honor my g/f's warrenty? She ha sbeen meaning to send her laptop back to dell because teh thing keeps freezing for no appearent reason. I dont want her to return her laptop then have dell tell her that they cannot repair it because they no longer have that notebook or its parts.

it is not so much the warrenty, it is that i am afraid that since they no longer have that kaptop, they will just give her a cheaper one to replace it.

i have never seen dell completely replace a laptop. Last time one of ours went swimming, they replaced the keyboard, lcd and mainboard. Same case and such, though. Believe me, they have a large stockpile of obscelete parts

I am gonna call them durign spring break. Hopefully it will not turn into teh spring break from hell.

Anyone else se ethe new 8500 also? It has a 4200go in it and weighs under 8 lbs. However, the thing is still ugly at cost alot.

They always have refurbished parts from old computers in stock. They might just send her an equivalent from http://www.dell.com/outlet/. I know people who have Inspiron 8000's and 8100's (now phased out) that have different batteries than the 8200's. You can still order those older parts online, so I suppose they will have them in stock. Just make sure you call and find out and make sure you know what you are getting in return before you send her laptop back.

I'm sure they'll try and fix it first, not requiring they replace the laptop.

A warranty is a warranty, call them after spring break, describe the problem and ask them if they'll likely fix the laptop or replace it.

its a warranty. if they don't honor it you can sue for breach of contract. if the problem isn't fixable they'll replace it with something similar. which should be another 2650 because they'll probably have quite a few from corporate overbuys and spare parts and things.

this new laptop lineup looks pretty sh!tty to me.

Yep, the color looks like a disgusting shade of grey with some kiddie-blue plastic. Yuck. I'm glad I didn't wait for this and bought my I8200 when I did. It doesn't even have a second media bay. If you want to add another battery or hard drive, you have to remove your DVD-ROM. Oh well, I'm sure people will snap this new one up because of the widescreen display and the GeForce4 4200 Go.
