Dell laptop - possible to swap Vista key to another machine?

I'm looking at getting a Dell laptop that comes with Vista Home Premium, but I want to use it on another machine and put XP on the laptop. I remember the last few Dells I used didn't allow the key to be transferred to a non-Dell machine. Is that still the case?
