Dell laptop memory - proprietary?

Dell's laptop memory isn't proprietary for models built in the last 2-3 years, is it? I recall reading somewhere that it was, along those lines...

Thanks!

No, Dell uses the same DDR/DDR2 so-dimms that you can purchase from manufacturer's like Crucial, Kingston, etc.

Edit:

Crucial has a nice memory configuration tool on their website that allows you determine which of their modules are compatible with specific Dell models.

Excellent. I knew this was the case for desktop memory but wasn't sure about laptops...just wanted to make sure.

Appreciate the help.
