Dell Laptop for Music Creation/Editing

I posted this in the general forum but got no responses.

Basically a friend is going to buy a dell laptop and use it primarily for creating music and taking it on the road to shows. He doesn't work with any audio above cd quality, and the programs he needs to use are some basic sequencing programs (think pro tools knockoffs) and some wav editing (cool edit or goldwave).

Can he get away with a pentium M at a modest speed and 1GB ram? I know he needs to get a good sound card, but is there anything that he would need to invest more in to handle audio?

I generally don't know how much power one needs for doing some audio stuff these days. Any help appreciated
