I have this dell laptop and I wish to remove the cover for the memory and harddrive. once the 2 captive screws are loosened then what is done? I do not quite see how the cover is removed at this point.

There's probably a manual online. But anyway, once the captive screws are removed, there may or may not be a lock you have to press - then the panel can just be peeled/lifted out from one side.

Alternatively, turn it over and shake it. (Only try this if you have an SSD.) If nothing comes loose, you haven't removed enough screws.

On my Latitude D410 I just searched Youtube and it had tons of videos of how to take it apart. I ended up taking off the entire back (about 18 screws) then the panel above the keyboard then keyboard and some ribbons and put it back together... and it didn't even blow up. :D The mechanical hard drive was easy to take off though, I just had to loosen the two screws than pull it out (I think).

i want to install a SSD and to get to the hard drive this cover needs to be removed. there are only 2 screws and these are captive screws and from what I understand once these are loose the cover simply pops off.

If there are only 2 screws the cover has some hooks somewhere and you have to slide it to get it off.

On the E6520 you take out the screws, lift the cover at the back and slide the cover forward and remove.

On the E6410 there is only one screw. You loosen it and then slide the whole cover towards the front of the computer before lifting and removing.

Search for the manual. The name format is:

latitude-e6410_service manual_en-us.pdf

Replace the latitude-e6410 portion with the correct for your laptop.
