Not your question OP but I noticed some liquid spill or possibly excess heat damage to the motherboard circuitry in that second pic. I'm wondering if even with the original BIOS password or a reset password that the laptop will boot and work properly.

If Dell service isn't an option, you'll almost certainly have to replace the motherboard.

If you feel comfortable installing it yourself, you can probably pick up a replacement 5010 motherboard on eBay for significantly less than what Dell would charge you to replace it. Just make sure the seller guarantees functionality and also that the BIOS is fully accessible (so you don't end up in the same mess all over again with the new board....).

the factory BIOS password on most of the Dells is one of these Admin admin Administrator administrator if you do a bios update of a reset . Good Luck! (i found this out by trial and error after Dell told me I needed to replace the motherboard after doing a BIOS update and could not get the correct password even though we had it. This is different from the user password which we had)

Nice resurrection of a necro post regarding a Dell laptop. Read all the posts before citing a solution. Users don't normally change laptop motherboards. Your post seems to be based on the fix for a Dell desktop.

If there is to be further discussion, it will be in the laptop forum.
