I have an Inspiron 6000. According to Dell's site, my battery is affected.

But they havent sent me any email notification. i learned about it thru cnn.com

WTF Dell? you have my email info. it was the email addr i used to buy your laptop. you gotta have my email associated w/the laptop i bought.

You think that Dell, a company with millions of customers, can cross-reference the email addresses of their website login database with their eCommerce order system with their service tag database that somehow magically includes all the serial numbers of every part in the system with a list of faulty batteries? This is a reasonable expectation?

The news is out and the recall website is easy to use. What more do you want?

You will not be notified. They have released and published the specific on the battery label to look for, and if you qualify, you call them.

Are you relating this to an automobile recall or something? Dell has sold way more computers than any car manufacturer, and computers aren't regulated like cars. Contacting people via e-mail would be a waste of time and resources. Most people probably don't have the same e-mail, others may put fake ones in, and the reality is they don't have e-mails for every computer they've sold. Why would they waste effort on a project like that when all they have to do is splash the info everywhere and make it convenient for customers to contact them?

Dell just blows, they do not do anything for you, heck they dont even do anything for service centers, the service center has to PAY to work on dells, yeah thats right PAY dell to work on Dell machines, and hope they get enough repairs to clear that and make a profit. Dell also does everything possible to make the service center miss thier claims so they cant get paid for thier work. I dont like dell.
