Dell introduces laptops that can ONLY use Dell memory!

It looks like going forward, if you want to upgrade the memory on your Dell laptop/notebook, you'll only be able to do so by purchasing some proprietary Dell memory.

No buying the memory from anyone else - it won't fit or work.

Aww, shucks, that's how it used to be, back in the "bad old days", with Compaq and IBM RAM upgrades. Sucks to hear that.

A downgrade to be sure but compared to Apple at least it is easily replaceable if you can find one available.

Hopefully either Dell abandons it or it becomes a new standard

precision workstation, i'm assuming most of those are sold to big iron type places. types of places with long terms service contracts, etc. better than ram being soldered.
