I have recently purchased a dell Inspiron 5100 laptop and want to share experiences with others who have bought this.
I think this is the first notebook with USB2.0 and 533FSB support and hence i was pretty much excited as soon as dell released it first week of march.
The laptop is kinda heavy at 9 pounds (AC adapter weight included).
Overall iam impressed with the laptop's performance .. it doesn't get very hot either. I had it on my lap for 4 hours and only then i could feel a bit of hotness but not too hot though.
Just one concrn is the CDRW/DVD drive (24x/10x/24x/DVD8x).
It is always noisy with the hissing + motor noise + vibrations with all CDs and DVDs i popped into it till now. I have no idea about laptops but i have compared this with my friends' HP laptops and they were surprisingly calm. So i want to know if other inspiron5100 owners out there are experiencing such problems.
One more factor is 256MB DDR is just not enough! Surprising how things change, 6 months ago 256mb was plenty! iam planning to upgrade to 512MB DDR333 as the laptop has Intel 845PE chipset which supports DDR333.
