Hey all,

I am building a new computer and I've bought a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler w/ 120 mm PWM Fan. I have a Dell Inspiron XPS 710 and after pulling out the CPU fan and Heatsink, which is pretty beefy, I wondered if I could salvage it. The PC I'm building is an intel core i5-4670k with MSI Z87-G45 Gaming in a Corsair Carbide Series 300R Windowed. Should I try to keep the beefy XPS 710 CPU cooler, since it seems much more impressive than my CM Hyper 212 EVO, or will my newer aftermarket CM EVO be a better option? This is my first desktop build and I'm very new to all of this. Thank you for the help!

Gonna need a picture of that "beefy" stock heatsink. Aside from looks, what do you mean by impressive? Better temps from the stock than the CM Hyper212 Evo?

One thing to keep in mind is that stock heatsinks may look larger than it needs to because it may have a duct. The odd shape might also not be compatible with a lot of aftermarket motherboards especially if the stock motherboard does not follow the standard layout.

You can't use that Heatsink, it's for BTX motherboards only. There is not much you can salvage from the XPS except for the HDD's and optical drives.
