Hello!

I have a Dell Inspiron E1525 with 512mb DDR2 PC2 667 and Intel Celeron 520? (it is the 1.86Ghz 533mhz FSB). It has Windows Vista Home Basic edition. The only thing we use it for is wireless internet and some basic word processing. It runs pretty slow when jumping between windows or opening windows. Looking at the Task Manager, it shows that while idling, I am using 400mb, almost all of my ram! I am looking to upgrade to more memory.

The ram in it now is Hyundai brand. I would like to just get a 1Gb stick for $13 shippped and have a total of 1.5 for the machine. Would that be enough for what little bit I do? Also, would the existing ram play nice with a new 1gb stick running at the same speed? Would I notice that big of a difference adding the extra ram? Thanks.

I suggest you get rid of the 512mb stick. For $13.00 a stick for 1gb buy two 1gb sticks for $26.00. Best to always run two sticks of equal size and speed. Hardware and Software will run smoothly. Most times unequal size and speed sticks of ram either will not work or will work with errors and more errors....just not worth it. Do it right and buy 2 equal size and speed memory sticks.

You will notice a nice speed increase in performance across the board both in bootup time and system smoothness when using programs. The OS will love you for it.
