What is up with this modem?? When I got my laptop on Monday and set up the internet with it, it worked fine for a few minutes but then the connection dropped. Ever since then I've been getting an "Error 680: No dial tone" on XP. I've tried it in both my friends houses and different jacks in my house. I've formatted and reinstalled everything. I've tried reinstalling the drivers. It got to the point where I was stumped because I can usually solve these problems. I called Dell and asked them to help me and they did the same things I did. They also told me that my modem was working fine when they tested it the week before. What could be wrong with it? I've read that call waiting and other telco services can cause it to do that but we only have Caller ID on the line. Could the modem be too sensitive to line noice or is it something else? Someone help me!!!

That sounds like a hardware problem. Since you have an 8200, I expect it's fairly new. If it is under 30 days, just demand a new system. If not, they will just replace the modem.

Whoops, didn't see that you got it on monday. Most definitely call dell and get a new laptop. No use in trying to fix it since it was clearly came with a hardware problem.
