Dell Inspiron 8100 Concern

I have owned my Inspiron 8100 since November 2001. It has been the best investment I have made in a while. Everything about it is great. The only concern I have is the hard drive speed. I know the drive isn't as fast as 3.5mm drivers but still, should I get a sixth of the speed I do from my other box. It came with a 20gb 4200rpm (I'm guessing, it was benched) hdd. ATA100 so it says, that is great that it can transfer at that speed but what is the point if I can't write anything that fast. From my server I can transfer at about 1mb/sec. My box gets about 6mb/sec using its ATA33 7200rpm hdd. Is there anything I can do to fix this, or make it a little better. It is great having a 1GHz laptop with a GeForce2 32mb but if I can't boot up and load programs/files quickly it makes it feel a lot slower. Any help would be great.😀

Let's see here....

WRONG FORUM. :| :disgust: :| Try the "GENERAL HARDWARE" forum or something.

I can't believe the huge increase lately in these NON-Highly Technical posts.
