Dell Inspiron 700m owners check in!

I just got my inspiron 700m yesterday and love it! The only thing I'm having problems with is finding a nice carrying bag. Any recommendations? I'm looking for something that's sort of a messenger type bag. Or a small backpack maybe. Main thing is it has to have lotsa cushioning 😀

EDIT: Anyone have any experience with this shinza sleeve?

Checked in! I actually bought it for my sister for college, but it's a nifty little machine.

First thing I did of course, was format it 😀 Let me know what bags you find, I'd be interested as well.

Same here. Formatted it last night and installed xp pro instead of home. Plus I didn't install all that extra crap/junk they put on there. This machine is fast!

looks like a nice notebook. i've been eyeing some lightweight notebooks to be the successor to my aging Thinkpad X22 🙂

you may want to check out notebookforums.com (something like that)

they have huge area of reviews of cases for 700m cases... I use a samsonite notebook backpack and it works great (from ebags - you can check HD forum posts from me on that)

is it wrong that i take joy in telling customers all of the proprietary things dell does?

P.S. they're good machines as long as you take care of them

Well I have a 600m - close to the same thing. Love my 600m and here is the bag that I have:

This bag is very well built. I recommend any of the swiss army stuff.

I like mine a lot but I don't understand why the LCD has that shiny finish. When I ordered it I thought it was some kind of hard glass or acrylic screen, like the Neovo monitors have - which would make perfect sense in a laptop. But it's not, it's that same pliable stuff other LCDs are made of, except it glares like crazy and attracts dust and fingerprints like a magnet. Doesn't make any sense to me. It is very bright and sharp, though, and the view angle radius is impressive - and you'll need all of it as you contort yourself and your computer into bizarre, Mary Lou Retton-like positions trying to find a way to use it without the glare from every light source nearby searing into your retinas.

Other than that it's great. Just the right size, surprisingly well made, very fast and stable. Even the bottom end ones come with 5400RPM drives - a huge improvement in itself. Some people think the keyboard is too small but I'm okay with that.

edit: in answer to your post, PC Surplus Online is orignial Dell leather bags for $24.99. They're used but the one I got was indistinguishable from new.

If you HAVE TO purchase a dell, listen to this man and purchase a latitude system, they're so much better than the consumer line. Dell assumes the consumer doesn't know what's best for themselves.

typing from one now... keyboard is actually a really great size.

I like how it even games decently.... I started uni this year (first week of classes still....) and taking notes is a breeze.... though i feel like i wasted money on binders that i wont be using...

I have played madden on it, and with settings down to playstation-1 type graphics (blocky and ugly) it runs great!

all in all I love this ultra-portable yet not too small and still powerful lappy

i have the shinza sleeve.. i love it cause it looks cool and provides decent protection for a sleeve... the only problem is that the 700m doesn't really fit with the extended battery.. it almost does, but you have to stretch it a little, and after a while, the foam gets all messed up, and rips away from the edging (it's foam covered in cloth with an edging).. it's still usable, but it is a problem..

i love my 700m.. it's hands down my best purchase in the last year.. i've had it for almost a year now, and i haven't had too many problems.. my battery got messed up once, i called them, and i got a new battery in a day..
