Dell Inspiron 6000 RAM / Memory upgrade questions

I just purchased a Dell Inspiron 6000. Like anyone else who has purchased a 6000, I am receiving a 533 Mhz FSB motherboard, but only with 400 Mhz DDR2 RAM. Luckily, I opted to only purchase 1 stick of 256MB because I wanted to add the RAM myself instead of paying the ridiculous prices of Dell.

However, would I lose performance if I had 2 sticks of unequal RAM size....I already have 256MB, but I wanted to add another stick of 512MB. Would it be better, performance wise, to take out the 256MB stick and add Two 512MB? If the performance increase is negligible, I rather leave the 256MB in there. Also, is it an issue to have RAM running together with different rated Clock Latencies (CL)? Thanks!

To take advantage of dual channel performance you will need two identical sticks of RAM.

And dual channel performance is meaningless. 0% performance increase by running DC.
Just buy the amount of ram that you want and dont pay attention to the DC hype when it comes to the Pentium M and the 915 chipset.
