ive read some reviews that the dell laptops are known for poor video quality.
I am wondering if anyone here has taken a look at some of the inspiron 6000's displays?

and if so how do they appear to you?

I have one and they look good. However, I will say that when in battery mode the display looks a bit dark.

Did the reviews specify whether the video card was integrated or was it on the Ati video chip.

I have an I6000 with the WUXGA screen and integrated graphics and for Windows applications and 1920x1080 HD media, I'd have to say it's probably the best looking display I've ever seen.

sounds good

I believe the majority of the reviews I read had ATI cards in them.

Did any of you have the 6000 custom made and if so how long did delivery take from your order date?

My WSXGA screen looks great. A little like leakage, but nothing major. Mine took about 8 days from order to delivery, but they upgraded mine to Next Day shipping for some reason. If it was just standard ground, it probably would have been 10 days.

I have the 6000 with the WSXGA and integrated Intel graphics card. The only display problem I had was when I installed Linux. For whatever reason, the firmware screws the X Server application in Linux. So if you plan to use Linux at all, you may have to switch to an older firmware version. Windows should run about as well as expected.

hows the WUXGA compared to the WSXGA.....it's only $50 more butonly worried how small the text would look. I do photoshop and chief architect stuff and could use extra estate....

I have the WSXGA and I find this a tad small, Going Ultra would be ober the top for me. If you were to do a lot of work in Photoshop it might be good for you, but if you have to do a bit of office work this may not be the monitor for you. On the original question I love my monitor. As for the monitor display brightness while using the battery, this can be changed if you don't mind using a little more battery.

I have the WSXGA screen and it is large enough for my taste without making the text too small to read. The resolution is nice so you can vertically tile two windows and be able to read almost like a book that way, have an internet browser on one side and a word document open on the other or a PDF or whatever.

The reason why the display goes dim without the power adapter is how it is programmed. The brightness backlight automatically dims to save on power but if you brighten it up using the FN keys, then you can have full backlight capability. And it should keep that setting the next time you have the lappy not hooked to the power adapter.

The screen when black is not completely black. I am sure everyone is aware by now the power leakage on the LCD screen at the bottom edge of the screen. This maybe an annoyance to some but this only happens when the LCD screen has power but no display output. Meaning when I watch a movie full screen and it comes upon a black frame, it is relatively black throughout the screen.

I heard the WXGA screen's resolution is too "small". Doesnt fit much information on one screen and the WUXGA's resolution makes the text very small. WSXGA is a balance IMO.

I have the dedicated X300 GPU and the thing about its multi-monitor is not with the LCD, but how it is programmed. You cant expect to close the laptop lid and still keep the same display setup (IE, the secondary output remains as the extended desktop - the second monitor will revert to the primary screen - an annoying aspect IMO.)

Outdoor usage, in somewhat direct sun and not under a shade, it is a must to have full backlight up otherwise you cant distinguish anything at all. Best to view under a shade if you like to work with your lappy outside. Works great inside otherwise in terms of contrast and brightness.

I have an i6000 with WSXGA+ and the ATI card, and it works great now.

When I first received the laptop, there were intermittent lines going across the screen whenever I moved the panel or adjusted the brightness, but they sent someone to replace the LCD the next day and it's been fine since.

Other than that, I would just repeat everything Imaginer said - the black is black enough for me
