I have tried multiple PC cards and USB adapters and the admittedly flaky internal PCI adapter.... all of them struggle to connect or maintain a connection to my wireless access point (i even tried two different accesspoints, both of which work fine with my other computers...)

Also, the 5150 asks me to select a boot device at EVERY startup. (HD, Floppy, CD) Theres also a series of beeps, so I wonder if it is telling me the CMOS battery is dead?

Verify that BIOS is trying to boot from Hard drive cdrom or floppy 1st, not network or other device.
sounds like you might have the NVIDIA**** somthing (i forget the rest of the name, boot selsector)
as your 1st boot choice, I remember when I had it picked it asked me every time also.
