I recently ordered the dell inspiron 5100 for $1122 and i also get a $100 rebate after that price using the 10% discount coupon they emailed me. then my friend told me the x1000 deal was way better and i should get that. I called Dell and it was too late too cancel because it was in the warehouse being made and i could only return it once i get it at my house *cough* BULL* "cough* and i could return w/ no return fee. I ordered the x1000 deal and now i have the lap at my house. I emailed them saying i wanted to return it because i could not afford both. Now... in the return email they say If there is anyway you could find another use or user of these products I would be happy to offer you $100 off the price of the system. so after the discount its $1122 - $100 (offer) - $100 MIR = $922. Should i keep it or not? I could easily give it to my sister or dad.

Hmmm, I've got a 5100 and love it.... BUT mine is faster at 2.53GHz and has more options like builtin 802.11a/b wireless, 15" SXGA+ screen, etc. for around the same ~$950 price (4 months ago). So I'd say you didn't get a "absolutely great deal" if that is the only reason you are wanting to keep it.

I'd say return it. Insist that they take it back without the return fee as you were told you could.

I would return it at that price.

I have a basic 5100 w\built in wifi, but only kept it because I got it for about $700 plus tax out of the refurbs. Would have gone for the X1000 instead, but I was only purchasing it as an alternative to a portable dvd player for the family and not a computer that I will use often.
