Dell Inspiron 5000 LCD Problem

My LCD display has 11 vertical bands about 1-1/8" wide that run from the top to bottom of the display. Every other band starting with the second from the left is filled with horizontal "noise" lines. Screen can still be used but the "noise" bands can be seen running in the background. Video output to external monitor is normal. Does this sound like an inverter or cable problem? Other explanation...?
