Dell Inspiron 4100 freezes when I try to shutdown.

This laptop is about to go back to Dell unless I can get some help from you nice people. I got it just a couple weeks ago and it will freeze almost every time I try to shut down, it will freeze right where it says "Windows is shutting down".
First, on the advice of tech support, I stopped all the unnecesary programs from starting up upon boot, then I reseated all the drives and cards. That didn't work so today I formatted and reinstalled windows xp and reinstalled the drivers from the disk, but I still had the problem. Then I downloaded the latest display driver from Dell, and flashed the BIOS to the latest version but that didn't help.
Please help me if you know how to fix this.

Bump. I have this exact same problem. It happens when I try to go into standby, hibernation, and even when I try to reboot. It's really annoying!
