Hi ,

When starting my Laptop today the keyboard it displaying wierd errors .

The G,H,Y Keys display GT5 , HY6 , YH6 instead of the letters G,H,Y .

Im using a USB Keyboard just now, there are other keys malfunctioning like the backspace wont repeat when held down .

I'll type some letters and numbers i.e. from 1 to 9 to show it . First on the Laptop keyboard then on the external USB keyboard .

1234gt5hy6789 - Laptop
123456789 - USB

qweryh6uiop - Laptop
qwertyuiop- USB

Does anyone know whats causing this ?

I'd have to take the Laptop apart to look at the underside of the keyboard and the film connection. It still has about 6 months on the Dell warranty, so i dont want to do anything to void it .
If its definitely a hardware problem i can get it repaired on warranty, or even just buy a replacement keyboard [ Dell keysboards only cost about £15-£20 New ]

I dont know if it's hardware or software/driver errors . The fact the USB keyboard works fine make me think its not a software/driver error .

It's just the way the affected keys are displaying ? It looks familiar , you know with keyboards without the Number Pad they use the letters as a number pad when you activate something like shift key or Numlock .

EDIT :

I found this online :-

The UP/UP pattern is learned as follows:

While stroking keys AQ1 SW2 DE3 FR4 GT5 HY6 JU7 KI8 LO9 ;P0 watch keyboard chart and say A UP/UP S UP/UP D UP/UP F UP/UP, F OVER UP/UP J OVER UP/UP J UP/UP K UP/UP L UP/UP ; UP/UP to create ten 4-stroke "words" per line.

It seems to be a method of touch typing

Why my keyboard has started this i still have no idea .
