I am inquiring about a Dell Inspiron 15-3531. Someone has one for sale locally for $200, they've only owned it a week. Apparently, though, it goes for $250 (plus shipping?) brand-new. It's apparently a budget-priced type of laptop.
I am normally a desktop user, I know how to work on them to a limited degree, and thus tend to prefer them. To that end I had been considering a Dell Optiplex 380, which has a dual-core 2.53G (or 2.G, forget which) chip and 4G of RAM. Someone had one for $150, it had Windows 7 Home Premium. However, I saw the Inspiron 15-3531 for $200 which is newer and has Windows 8 (I do OK with Windows 8 installing 3rd party start button programs). Again, I normally prefer desktops with them being easier to work on and upgrade etc, but a newer one with Windows 8 for $200 would perhaps be better?
All of these are meant as backups or second-units, my main one is a Dell Inspiron 660s with Windows 8 I purchased brand-new a year ago, it's currently in repairs (the power supply failed on it and it's still under warranty--I can normally easily change power supplies, but that one is hard to remove and very "proprietary" in its shape etc).
My computer usage isn't very demanding, the main demanding programs would be Adobe Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS2. I also sometimes play 720p video clips in the .mp4 format.
Thoughts?
