I was thinking about getting a Dell Inspiron 1100. I was just wondering what the general consensus on it is, and if it's a good buy for the money ($799-$100 MIR). Also, I'd like to use it to watch movies on my living room TV, so I'm also wondering how the TV out and audio out quality are on this laptop. Keep in mind they DON'T have to be great. The TV is a 27" curved screen console, and the sound is just the speakers built into the TV and then two wireless ones in the rear. Basically, as long as the quality is as good as VHS quality, both in video and sound, it should be fine.

My friend just bought one. It seems pretty good, if a bit bulky. Audio from the built-in speakers is, of course, total crap.

I'd assume audio-out would be much like any other 16-bit soundcard. I haven't seen TV-out so I can't comment on that.

I think the biggest drawback it has (He doesn't care about it though) is it's onboard video; despite Intel's claims, "Intel Extreme Graphics 2" is pretty slow. It has trouble running Half-Life (A 6 year old game based on Quake 1) at native res at full speed. So if you want any 3D app more advanced than Half-Life or Quake 2, you're out of luck.
