Dell Inspiron 1000 Notebook - $599 No Rebates!

The $699 - $100 rebate is an Outrageous Deal and typically those don't accept coupons. So for people who want to avoid the rebate hassle, or have coupons to stack on top of this deal, it's great.

But I do see the 1150 has the 65 Whr Li ion battery as standard as opposed to the 43 Whr NiMH battery on the 1000.

Does internal not equal antenna inside the edges of screen display (or is that a Centrino only attribute)? I know that the internal version I have with antenna inside the edges of screen = MUCH better reception.
 
The 1000 kind of sucks though, 14 inch screen, celery, not well loaded, i bought a perfect condition laptop that's 4 years old for 250, and that had same screen, dvd, similar size hd, and a P3, not much of a chance from a celeron lol.
 
AFAIK, both 1000 and 1150 use desktop versions of CPU's so an upgrade from Celeron shouldn't be much of a hassle. If you plan on using your laptop away from AC outlet, definitely go with 1150, Lithium batteries have at least 2X life of NiMH.
 
NiHM generally have memory so the battery max life is always decreasing, tho I haven't kept up with batt tech in the past few years

It's NiCd that develops memory that decreases battery life. NiMH are not supposed to develop memory at all as far as I know. According to this page NiMH Batteries, Memory and thermal runaway, there can be a small effect of memory on NiMH that "can be seen by discharging a NIMH battery to 1.2V/Cell repeatedly, at a constant current of roughly C/2, then recharging normally. After at least 10 repeats of this, a normal discharge to 1.0V/cell will show a small "bump" at the 1.2V point. A single normal discharge and charge will erase this "memory".

'Memory Effect' is the common term used to replace the more accurate term 'Voltage Depression.'
Voltage Depression occurs primarily in NiCad batteries. NiMH batteries are almost never affected and Li-Ion batteries are NEVER affected.
