Not too shabby. There have been several Dell lappy deals posted lately. Hopefully these will continue, although I have heard that prices may be in the rise for laptops. Anyway, decent deal. Does anyone know if this laptop has a docking station available? No luck on Dell's sight.

<< how come laptop prices does not drop that much compare to desktop? >>

Most likely for a few reasons...
1.) Laptop components are more expensive to produce because volumes are lower.
2.) LCD components are expensive due to shortages.
3.) Laptops are considered 'luxury' items and therefore demand a higher price therefore limiting price drops.

Just my take on it.

Does anyone know when the Inspiron 4200 will come out?

If Dell holds true to form, when the 4200 comes out, they will have good deals on the 4100.

Anyone have more info on the 4200, like possible specs or the release schedule?

I'm looking to buy in the next couple months, but I could hold out a bit longer if the 4200 sounds promising.

The only mention of the 4200 I see anywhere is on Dell's support site (as an option in the "Portables" pull down menu). I guess that's a good sign.

As good as a deal this is, I'm waiting for the 4100 replacement too just so I can get a 4100 for cheap. I really cant go for a laptop much heavier than 5.5lbs, and I would much rather buy a PIII-M over a P4-M due to heat issues. But I did take a look at the Gateway 450l and that thing is really nice too, but too expensive for me.

Just FYI:

Latitude X200

also here

<< The Latitude X200 weighs 2.8 pounds (1.26 kilograms) and is four-fifths of an inch thick (20.32 millimeters), with a 12.1 inch XGA (extended graphics array) TFT (thin film transistor) display, giving its screen a maximum resolution of 1,024 by 768 pixels.

The sleek new laptop comes with a 30G-byte ATA-100 hard drive, up to a 640M-byte PC133 SDRAM (Synchronous Dynamic RAM) and an Ultra Low Voltage Mobile Intel Pentium III-M 800 MHz processor combined with an Intel 830MG chipset.

The X200 is geared even more toward mobile users, with a 56K bps (bit per second) V.92 modem with an integrated 3Com 10/100 Ethernet, and a six-cell 20-watt hour "smart" Lithium Ion battery. The new laptop has two USB (universal serial bus) ports, one PC Card slot, and one six-pin IEEE 1394 port.

The Latitude X200 starts at $1,899 with these standard features and will begin shipping in all of Dell's worldwide regions in mid to late May, the spokesman said. The company is also offering an array of customized options that can ratchet up the price a few hundred dollars more, however.

Users can choose to add a X200 Media Base with a choice of optical drives such as CD-ROM, CD-RW (CD-rewritable), or a combination of CD-RW/DVD starting at $299. When attached to the media base, the X200 still weighs less than 5.5 pounds, Dell said.
>>

Update:

I just noticed this important info:

<< While the X200 is new from Dell, it's not new to the market. Gateway offers a similar version of the notebook designed by Samsung, a long-time Dell partner.

Gateway's version of the notebook, its Gateway 200, weighs 3 pounds and includes a 933MHz Pentium III-M processor, 256MB of RAM and a 20GB hard drive. It sells for $1999, including the expansion base.

Gateway 200 (933MHz PIII-M)

Anyone have one of these?
