1.86ghz Pentium M
512mb DDR
40gb HDD
128mb X300
9Cell battery
8x DVD-ROM
other standard junk

for $1250ish.

It sounds like a good deal to me. I'm going to be using it for college in the fall mostly, with some modest mobile gaming between classes if I have the time.

It's not nearly such a great deal as the 9300 when the $750 off deal was in effect, but I think it's a pretty dang resonable notebook.

My advice is to spend another $45 for a CDRW upgrade,
and a second 9Cell battery is always worth it.

I also have a very low-spec Toshiba M35X:
Celeron M, 256mb DDR, 40G HD, 8Cell battery, DVD/CDROM.
I love it, as long as you don't play games on your laptop.

I will second Peter007. CDRW is a no brainer; better to have it than not. And buying the battery @ time of purchase is usually cheaper than buying after the fact.
If I were you I would drop the CPU down a notch and get a 7200RPM hdd. (A) The 533MHz FSB Dothan's use more power than 400MHz ones, so why go for a higher clock when you don't need it? (B) HDD is one of the biggest bottlenecks on notebooks, kill it now!! 😛
Also, are you getting 2x256MB or 1x512? Depending how much $ you have, get 1x512 and either now or later get another 1x512 for some Dual Channel goodness 😉
Oh, and duh, WARRANTY!! IT IS A DELL

I would get the 60GB drive, not sure if you want to opt for the 7200 rpm.

I would get the better WSXGA+ screen instead fo the standard WXGA. Like everybody said, get the CDRW drive.

Good luck.
