Hello, I just got an Inspiron 14z. I took it out of the box, didn't even turn on the machine, took out the HDD and slapped in a Sandisk 120GB SF-1222 based HDD. Had an OEM disc with me to activate using the key from the laptop itself. The problem was that the SATA controller could not be recognized. I put in my Home Premium disc and it was able to install fine. After updating the drivers I get a very very quick BSOD and then reboot. This is baffling. Do I to boot the the included HDD first? Is there some sort of a mechanism that is activated using the build in install? I hate the Dell Datasafe software which is PITA to remove from HDD. I have installed SSD's in all my laptops and desktops. I also tried the F6 drivers for the HM67(?) chipset that is recognized by the Dell Drivers disk but nothing is detected, whether or not I check the "show compatible only" button in the scanning page. Any help appreciated.
Trying a different SSD and going through the same steps right now. Will know soon whether the SSD was messed up or not.
