Dell India is doing a better job

I've called three times in the past week to Dell, and all three times, I spoke to someone from India. The first time was to cancel an order for an item I purchased and then repurchased for a lower price. The second time yesterday, to exchange my Dell 2405FPW since it had a dead pixel when it arrived. The third time, to cancel my order again since it has been a week since I originally called and my order was still showing "In Production". Anyways, each time I called and spoke to a Dell representative from India, they gave me an Indian name. Don't know why but I liked this much better than what they would do before and try to make me feel like I was talking to an American by giving me an American name like Mark, Mary, Lisa, etc. even though their accent was no where like what an American would sound like. Anyways, I got my new 2405FPW today and it has no dead pixels so I am really excited. I called Dell yesterday to exchange the monitor and was shocked when it arrived today. Now if they could just provide a firmware for my Dell Axim x50v to fix all of my bluetooth bugs, then I'd be really happy. :)

I still havn't had a good experience when I get thrown to the India tech support. Either the phone connection is to crap and they can barely hear me or I can barely hear them. Or when I have to spell out my street name I practically have a breakdown because it's so g-damn long and they have trouble understanding my Californian accent.... :|

I went through hell with them a few days ago, it was insane. I never got an invoice and wanted them to send me one, preferrably by email. Nope, cant. Since I bought the laptop on line, the invoice has to be obtained, on line. One problem, the "invoice generator" doesn't work! Then, I get transferred again, and put on hold for about 20 minutes while they "look into your problem", and get to listen to the same 1 minute piano clip over and over again. Just play the whole damn song! I think they can afford it.

Then, a supervisor comes on and says, Mr.XXXX, I have checked into this and your laptop was delivered to your residence at *** XXXXX XXXXXX Drive, on june XX and someone signed and claimed to be you accepted it! I choked on my iced tea at that point and told her I had the damn laptop, ALL I WANTED WAS AN INVOICE SO I COULD PAY ON IT! She went silent, then sighed and muttered "Ohh, this is such a very very big mess!" Then they kissed my butt and assured me that an invoice and a stackable coupon was on it's way. I liked the coupon part, but still.

I spent an hour and a half on the phone, and spoke with people in India and Panama. They were all pretty clueless and giving one my email address was an adventure in itself!

THEN, another guy, sounded Philipino, called and starts asking me about..my laptop that I never got. ARRGGHH!!! I told him I had it, and all I wanted was a damn invoice.

By the time I was done with it, I wanted to send it back...

Outsourcing is madness, they can't really come out ahead...

They're getting a lot better from what I've seen in terms of accent and cooperation with the customer. I don't think it's a bad thing, possibly because I wasn't directly affected in terms of a job, but I think in the long run this type of competition is needed.
