Dell/HP/Samsung 30" LCD

Pros - Very high resolution

Cons - Requires a ton of horsepower to run current games - 16:10 aspect ratio - Black levels

Comments: I don't like 16:10, and it seems all PC LCD's are 16:10, and not 16:9. I dislike this very much... But, I can live with it *if* these 30" displays can scale well. Can anyone comment on how well the Dell, HP or Samsung scales in non native resolution?

Sharp LCD-TV 32/37"

Pros - Good resolution - 16:9 aspect ratio - doesn't require a ton of horsepower - Size - Good blacks

Cons - Lower resolution - Potential dynamic contrast Issue.

Comments: I am leaning towards the LCD-TV because it requires less horsepower, but is still great resolution, has awesome blacks, is 16:9, is larger and is actually a tad cheaper... But, is there something I am missing? An oversight?

Difficult to decide, but a lot of it depends on how well the PC 30" can scale to non-native resolutions...

OR, should I just wait for a while? I don't need this set today, this minute... I can't wait months or even a year if needed... But I don't want to wait if there isn't anything better around the corner... My current display is fine, I like it, it looks great, but I am ready to make the next jump in resolution.

i have done some serious research regarding the Sharp 32, there are two BTW, make sure you get the one with hyper drive and side panel. Anyways, Do a google search of the model number, hard forums had a 40 page thread regarding this and only this LCD TV. There are some problems with it ofcourse, but you need to decide. The 30 inchers are cool, put the Samsung out cause its not HDCP so its crap do to the fact that it has no future. Both the HP and Dell are very expensive but pretty. Still not worth it imho. Now, if the prices dropped on those two monitors dramatically then I might consider. but still, so many pluses to the Sharp, tons of inputs, etc etc.

I will be buying the Sharp in about 2 weeks and will give a full report on it /w pics.

BTW, I asked this same question in this thread less then a week ago. http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2085694&enterthread=y

Thanks for the response.

I have done a ton of research already. I have spent about 20 hours researching the sharp 32/37" both the GP1 models, which is the one you mentioned/recomended. My concern with the sharp is the quality control... AVS Forum has quite a few reports of Sharps quality control going down the tube lately... So, I dunno... But right now Sharp is THE LCD as far as black levels go... Their blacks can be compared to Plasma's. Though I suppose someone will argue that. The first time I see a Sharp in the store, I had mistaken it for a Plasma... The blacks were THAT good.

So, even the westinghouse 37" would be great, but that suffers from the same problems as most current LCD's... Black Levels... The black levels are very important to me, which is why I loved CRT's...

I guess I am worried that if I buy the Sharp, the price will drop 500 bucks like 3 months after and I HATE when that happens. Granted, things will take a price hit, but sometimes it is too much to bare... :-(

But, I posted because I wanted to make sure my thinking was not flawed in regards to the PC LCD's... Mostly with scaling... If I can run non-native and still have it look stunning, then I will not mind so much with going with the Dell or HP.
