Thanks rasputinj!!!

I've been asked to shop around for laptops for three people. Two teachers and one in training. Hmmm... 5100, 8500 or 500m? Time do some research.

There is also a good deal on a loaded Inspiron 8600 with wireless card, 512MB RAM, 40Gb HD, Intel mini pci wireless card, Centrino 1.3Ghz Cpu, 15.4 WXGA for $1299 after rebate.

Remember free shipping @ Dell Home and no tax in most states..

the 8600 is Centrino 1.3Ghz, and the 8500 is P4M 2.2Ghz. I am figuring that the 8600 is just the newer version of the 8500 which probably means they will be phasing out the 8500? I think the 8600 is a better deal with the wireless card and the 512MB RAM, with the Centrino technology.

Do any of you old timers remember the last sizzling Hot Deal on a higher end Dell Inspiron laptop?

More than a year ago this was super smokin' hot.
I remember, though my memory is cluttered with numerous threads with the RossMan agonizing over a potential laptop purchase! :D :D :D :D :D

I vaguely recall that you actually bought one, but that may just be a beer-induced hallucination!

I was thinking about moving up to a new Dell lappy, but found out that much of the reason my Inspiron 5000 was running so slow was due to Norton real-time file system protection. It's only a PIII-600mhz, but it cost me $2000+ in 2000! I'm gonna run it for another year or until the next hard drive failue, whichever happens first!

It's nice to see well equipped laptops with 15 inch screens going for under a grand now.

Cheers,
MN
