We purchased some poweredge 1750's and I did the clean install with the usual boot cd. I saw that it loaded up linux instead of the common NT4 kernal that Dell has always used for openmanage installation cd :Q

I guess M$ was charging them too much to boot the cd on NT4 that they decided to go the free route ;)

linux != "the dark side"

I tend to look at it the other way around... ;) They are moving away from embracing the dark side.

Am I the only one who hates Linux? Its hard to use, nothing I would let my Mom or Father in law touch because I couldn't deal with the support calls. I tried a couple times to run a game server on Linux but gave up because I couldn't get squat done without flipping a huge manual, that didn't have half the answers.
So yes... I have a server at work that is up for 3+ years. Impressive... yes. However, I like my life on the Dark side and enjoy the convenience of XP (I have not seen a blue screen in forever). Thanks Bill!

have you ever installed redhat 8,9, fedora? pop in 3 cds and you're done. Once installed, you go in to a nice gui desktop. It's just as easy to use as windows or os 9.x, 10.x. As for linux servers...yes we have some that we never touch! They run forever and they're free. All we paid was hardware.

It is hard to setup, but once you learn, it's actually easier to maintain. I, like you, wish there's better documentation. Until then, we're at the mercy of linux geeks ;) I don't mind swallowing my pride and asking them. After all, "ya don't learn if ya don't ask" - Lenny.

I thought you were going to say they were now offering AMD PCs. :confused:
