Dell has a ZERO dead pixel policy on Ultrasharps?

Was just browsing the web for more information on the U2410, and came across this link:

http://en.community.dell.com/f...19284439/19518692.aspx

Says that for Ultrasharp flat panel monitors, Dell will replace the monitor if it has ANY defective pixels as covered by the Premium Panel Guarantee.

If so, I may be purchasing a new Ultrasharp ASAP. One thing that bugs me is dead pixels...

AFAIK, Dell has/had a 21-day return policy and the reason can be anything including dead pixels but there are people who go through like 10 panels until they get the "perfect" one since they pay shipping too.

So, yeah an extra 9 days for dead pixels isn't that big a deal.

Dell cross ships too, so you won't be without a monitor while you wait. The worst part of the Dell RMA process is having to climb the phone tree and talk to their reps to set up the RMA. Set an hour aside for any calls you make to Dell to be on the safe side.

Whoa, this is excellent news. I just noticed a pixel on my 2408WFP that appears to be stuck. If they DO cross ship, this is tempting.

Beware, though, I heard you only receive refurbished units from RMA. I'm not 100% sure, though.

The policy says that after 30 days you will receive a refurbished unit.

Being an ex-dell employee, I can confirm this as well and does not apply to just monitors.

Yeah, I had so much trouble finding the perfect panel during my last monitor search, still using my 20WMGX2.

I will certainly look into a Dell even just to show appreciation for the policy.

I had a 2408WFP that was going bad. It would heat up and shut down. The image would "freeze" on the screen and the buttons would become non-responsive. The only cure was to pull the power plug and let it cool down. If you plugged it back in immediately it would probably only work for a minute or two. Happened last summer and it happened this spring when the weather got warmer again. Didn't happen when I had the air conditioning on or in the winter. Pretty much 99% an issue with some part that is overheating.

It took me two hours on the phone, being transferred back and forth as well as them running a "test" by having me replicate the issue. I'll admit I got lazy and just pretended to run their test of having the monitor plugged in for two hours to make sure the screen's image froze and the monitor became non-responsive when they called back.

Once you actually get the RMA through they will provide a cross shipped monitor to you and provide you with a shipping label.

I'm not sure that a dead pixel outside of the 30 day return qualifies as a defective monitor though. And you will indeed get an RMA'ed monitor back as your replacement since as others note, it's outside of the 30 day return period. The only way you will not get a previously RMA'ed monitor is if they run out of stock and that is highly unlikely.

I'm happy with the new monitor. No dead or stuck pixels and I hope it doesn't develop one. My old 2408 had a stuck grey pixel in the lower left corner that I never bothered to get replaced. It was so out of the way and I never noticed it except when I was checking for dead or stuck pixels. The new 2408 is a newer revision and the backlight bleeding, which was notorious on early 2408's, is much less noticeable.

If I'm buying a monitor that's more than $200, it's a Dell, mainly for their customer service. While their monitors are great products, it's the customer service that makes them #1 IMO. For instance, when I bought my 30" monitor it came (for free) with a 3 year advanced replacement (they will send you the new monitor first) no-questions-asked return policy.

Exactly. Customer service is one of my top priorities when it comes to buying monitors.
