Hey there. I am thinking of buying a new case for my computer because I need another 5.25" bay for a DVD-R drive. I have a Dell Dimension 8200 and I was wondering if I could put it into a new case. I have been looking around and for me I think my best bet is the Antec Dragon line of cases. I also like having 3 fans and a window :).

Anyways I have heard that Dell dosn't use normal hardware or power supplies. Will this still work? I really want to make this work in the new case. What would I need to make it work and why exactially dosn't the Dell stuff work in another case? What will I need to change? Someone please help!

I want to place the order for the case in a few days.

Also, anything I should add to my order for the new case? Maybe a better fan or some sort of cooling thing or something else?

It is possible and pretty easy.

1. you must reuse the Dell power supply as the motherboard has propriatary connections only for Dell power supplies.

2. Get a wiring diagram for your current case to compare how the switch wires go

3. If you want your USB remote mounted, that has to be done by hand and you need a wiring diagram also.

Everything else is standard parts and connections. As a plus you should be able to sell the Dell case pretty easy, as they are very nice cases.

What I was thinking of doing was buying one of those Front panel I/O devices and hooking the USB and mic up to that. Should be pretty easy.

I heard rumors that the Cheiftec cases are noisy. True? Untrue?

The case does not make noise. Its the fans you put in. Use panaflo L1A or other good fans( check the case and cooling forum).
