Dell Hard Drives @ 20% Off (how to get around 10% limit)

In the other threads there are links to 20% off, however, this does NOT apply to storage...storage is only 10% off! There's a way around this!

If you order an "upgrade" for a Dell then you're elgible for the 20% discount. I needed 2-80GB 7200 rpm drives so I went to their website and treated it as a system "upgrade". Just select about any high end system and search for "storage" and add it to cart. Then apply the $10 off coupon and you have a decent deal. I got two 80GB 7200 rpm drives for $196 shipped. The ONLY thing...when you choose to "upgrade" they don't tell you exactly what brand drives you're getting. All they give you is the generic "specs"...so I'm taking my chances. I'm pretty sure they will be Maxtor's or possibly Western Digital's.

Good Luck fellow bargain hunters! 🙂

I just ordered a HD from Dell this morning and got the 20% + $10 off without jumping through any of these hoops.

While looking into system upgrades for my laptop (Inspiron 5000) I came across a 20G refurbished HD for $139 while the rest of the hard drives in that area (also refurbed) were in the $200 range. Is this a good price for a refurbished 20G laptop HD? It initially struck me as one, but now I'm getting second thoughts researching them at pricewatch.

For that price you can get a 30GB from newegg.

NO!

You can beat that by a mile at any number of places, including dell. Those refurbs at Dell are ridiculous. I got a 120GB drive from dell this morning for $125 shipped. That deal is gone now but there are still many that beat a 20GB refurbed for $139.

Keep looking.

I think you are going to have a bit of trouble installing that drive into a Dell Inspiron.

Last month almost everyone that ordered an 80GB 7200rpm "Dell" drive was getting Seagate Baracuda IV. Nice, fast, quiet drive.

there seems to be a number of great hard drive deals at Dell right about now, too bad i'm in debt already

SimMike - GREAT! Thanks for the info, I hope you're correct.

bob92 - You got lucky. Dell has since changed the deal so you only can get 10% off storage. I tried to get in on the 120GB drive deal this morning...too late. I tried everything to get 20% off a drive until I figured out this little trick.

I'm happy with this deal because I was ready to spend much more:

DELL
Hard Drive; 80GB, 7200RPM, Ultra ATA, for Dell Dimension Systems Qty: 2 Unit Price: $98.20

Sub-Total $258.00

Discount -$61.60

Shipping $12.00

Shipping Discount -$12.00

Total Price $196.40

Just grabbed the Dell branded 80 gigger 7200 for $99.26 including sales tax and free shipping. Fingers crossed for the Seagate 'cuda'. 😉😀

So what's the deal with the warranties on these dell brand drives? Are they 3 years like WD/Maxtor. These deals are good, but a good warranty on a hard disk is always worth paying extra for.

the one i got seems to only have a one year warranty from dell. It doesn't seem to be a valid for a WD warranty.

my roommate got the 80 gig WD800 drive just the other day...

/me heads off to storagereview to see if its there
