Dell H61 mobo and AHCI

I'm reinstalling a clean version of W7 on a friend's Dell 620; it has an H61 board (American Megatrends) but I'm not seeing anywhere in the Bios to choose between IDE or AHCI...? Does it matter? No SSD is probably ever going to go in this thing, but I'm just wondering.

Read this Dell support forum thread: Dell Insprion 620/Vostro 260 NO Bios Setting for AHCI. It's another example of Dell "dumbing down" user configurable chipset features, but as you read the thread you'll find that it is possible to mod the BIOS in order to enable AHCI mode. Otherwise; ATAPI (IDE) is what you're stuck with.

I think for normal use, if he ever does get an ssd, IDE mode would work fine. I had an h61 mobo used for my server with an ssd and couldn't find the AHCI option in BIOS and it ran fine in IDE mode. Of course, now I'm having problems with my server but that's another story lol

I'll probably just roll with IDE...

I'm amazed at the limited BIOS features... I think my ancient (2006) Dell 5150 has more BIOS options.
I guess I can DX the IRST driver, too...
