I have a young sister that lives at my parents place and they share a internet connection through a router...I beleive they have Aernet Wireless 256/256k connection and is only $22 a month. Anyways she was using an old Pentium 166 MMX, 128MB Ram running Windows 2000.

I picked up an old Dell GXa computer recently, just because it was going to be trashed and I said I could use it so it was donated in my hands.

Anyways here are the Stats

Dell GXa
Pentium II 333 MHz
384MB Ram
10 GB Harddrive
4MB Integrated Intel Graphics
Integrated sound and 10/100 NIC

I took it up to her and she was delighted after using it for a while. Thought it was much faster than her old PC. I put Windows 2000 SP4 back on it since that is what she had a license for.

Anyways do you think it was a wise choice to put Windows 2000 SP4 on it or should I used Windows 98 SE? I own a liscense I don't use, is that illegal to allow her to use it?
I just want her machine to be speedy and it appears to bouce around really well compared to her old machine

Win 2000 is just fine - especially since that is what she is used to. I'd leave it as it is. As for legality issues, I'll leave that up to the lawyers.

Win98SE would be speedier probably in games. For her normal usage, windows 2k is stable and should be fine. On the question of whether it's illegal to transfer that license that you don't use, IMO it's not illegal since you already bought one and you're not using it.

So in conclusion, Win98se if she is a gamer (looks like she isn't since she survived with the old computer for so long) and Win2k for web browsing/word processing/stability. Now if she were to move up to Divx's Win98SE would give her the most out of the computer even though I did use a P3-450 with Win2k for a Divx box.
