Dell GX620 sucks

it randomly restarts for no good reason. does anyone else who has this model experienced random restarts? Do you know how to fix them? is it software.... hardware? power supply? i have no idea what else it could be.

it's totally brand new...

actually this is a work problem. we have GX620's that we deployed to software engineers and they keep restarting. one group of ppl who are using these computers keep having them reboot..... another group has no problems. it's driving me nuts cause i dunno how to fix it.

Turn off "Automatic Restart"

Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Startup and Recovery -> Settings -> System Failure -> Automatically Restart.

Now instead of restarting you will get a BSOD with an error message that will help find the problem.

yea unfortunately i already did turn that option off..... so it just blue screens everytime. i googled the error message and doesn't really help. i thought it was a driver error, but taking out the network cards that i installed individually on these computers.... it's still restarting. i dunno i give up.

use the restore cd, get it back to factor defaults and don't install anything else. have it run a couple of days and see if it still restarts. if so, it's hardware. If not, it's probably whatever you're installing on it...

also, immediately after you restore the pc to factory defaults, turn on the xp firewall and disable all ports, including those in the exceptions. better yet, before you restore the pc, just unplug the network cable. that way, you can prevent any viruses or worms you may have in your network from spreading into the new pc.

If you post what the BSOD says, we can try to help.

You might also want to inspect the motherboards for bulging or leaking capacitors. I know some Optiplex GX270's and SX270's have that problem. The tops of the capacitors should be flat like a soup can, not bulging like Canned Food Gone Bad. 😀

If it's one group and not another it's problably a software problem. There are lots of software compatibility issues, espicially with XP. I'd get a list of every program specific to that group and work through that.

Are you serious, they are brand new and they keep restarting? Send them back to Dell and tell them to shove it up their @SS. 1 by 1.

Send it back. It's obviously broken.

That problem would not surface so soon. It typically takes more than a year to surface. And it's been fixed in all new Dell's anyway.

I'll put my vote in too: It's not working, fresh out of the box, send it back or do something to get Dell to fix it for free. Any other product that doesn't work, you get warranty service. Same thing should apply here.
