Never worked on or owned a Dell. Great PCs for the price point.
Only from what i have read over at General Hardware do i say, Dell's are propietary and use some hardware that is special to the brand. You can measure and look but in the long run it would be much easyer to take what you can from the Dell and put it in a <$100 case.
This may seem harsh but is not intended as such. If you continue to change and modify this PC even if an ATX mb fits, you are going to run into other problems,as i have read over at GH. Do a search of more than the past 90 days about Dell and you will read what others have to say.
Standard Mobos will not mount up to a DELL case or vice versa.
I have owned a DELL 4700 and since sold it due to the fact that the case, mobo, psu, and cpu heatsink are all proprietary and need HEAVY modding in order to replace with aftermarket parts.
If it's the desktop case, it will take a mATX board. You'll need to somehow figure out the front panel connectors for it because they have a propriatary connector that carries the power button signal, lights and usb. If you figure it out, please post the wiring diagram as I would like to know. The dell power supply should not be propriatary and should work with any ATX board. Good luck.
Just on the off chance that you've had a motherboard failure, call Dell. There are some GX270's that have faulty capacitors, and they should take care of it regardless of your warranty status, I'd imagine.
